Every young person reaches a moment when they begin to ask the deeper questions—
Who am I? Where am I going? Who can I trust to guide me?
For many teens, those questions come without clear answers.
The Boys to Men & Girls to Women Youth Mentoring Initiative (BTM/GTW) was created to be that answer.
What began as a program focused on guiding young boys into manhood has grown into something more powerful—an inclusive, youth-centered community dedicated to supporting both young men and young women as they navigate one of the most critical stages of life. Today, BTM/GTW serves adolescents ages 13 to 18 throughout the Greater Washington area, meeting them where they are and walking beside them as they grow into who they are meant to become.
We believe that every young person deserves more than just instruction—they deserve connection. They deserve to be seen, heard, and valued.
At BTM/GTW, we create a safe and structured environment where teens can show up as their authentic selves. It’s a place where they can speak openly, ask questions without fear, and explore their identity with guidance and support. In a world filled with noise, pressure, and uncertainty, we offer something steady—a community rooted in trust, respect, and growth.
Through intentional mentorship, our participants engage in meaningful conversations and real-life learning experiences that go far beyond the classroom. They learn how to understand themselves, communicate effectively, make thoughtful decisions, and build healthy relationships. They develop confidence not just in what they can do—but in who they are.
But what truly sets this program apart is the power of mentorship.
Our mentors are more than instructors—they are consistent, trusted guides. They show up. They listen. They lead by example. Through their presence, young people learn accountability, resilience, and the value of integrity. They see what it looks like to navigate life with purpose—and begin to believe they can do the same.
We also recognize that the journeys of young men and young women can be different, shaped by unique challenges and expectations. That’s why we create intentional spaces for gender-specific conversations and growth. At the same time, we bring our participants together to build mutual respect, empathy, and understanding—because strong communities are built when we learn from one another.
BTM/GTW is more than a program.
It’s a support system.
It’s a place of belonging.
It’s a bridge between who these young people are today—and who they have the potential to become.
Every conversation, every lesson, every connection is rooted in one belief:
When young people are supported, guided, and empowered, they don’t just grow—they lead.
And when they lead, they transform not only their own lives—but their families, their communities, and their future.
